Seeing and Hearing Speech Vista Workaround Guide
This workaround resolves video playback problems in Seeing and Hearing
Speech on computers running Windows Vista operating system.
Please take the following steps after installing Seeing and Hearing
Speech on a computer running Microsoft Windows Vista:
1. Update Quicktime to the latest version by following this link:
Get
Quicktime Here, and install it on your machine following Apple's
installation instructions.
2. Next, navigate to the folder "C:\Program Files\Sensimetrics\Seeing
and Hearing Speech" on your computer.
3. Right click on the application named "Seeing and Hearing Speech"
and choose "Properties" from the pop-up menu.
Note: There will be more than one file in the folder with the name
"Seeing and Hearing Speech", you will need to look at the file type to
make sure you are choosing the "Application" file type.
This will open a new window with compatibility options. If the window
opens to another tab, be sure to click the "Compatibility" tab before
continuing to the next step.
4a. Check the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode
for:", and select "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" from the drop-down
menu and then click "Apply" at the bottom of the Window.
4b. If you have a computer with more than one account, and you want to
apply this fix to all of the accounts at once, click the button
labeled "Show Settings for All Users" and then change the settings as
you did in step 4a, above and click "Apply" or "OK" to apply the
change. Note: You will need to be logged into Vista as an
administrator to enact this change.
5. Close any open windows, and run Seeing and Hearing Speech as you
would normally.
Known issues:
When starting Seeing and Hearing Speech, Windows Vista will display
"The color scheme has been changed to Windows Vista Basic. A running
program isn't compatible with certain visual elements of Windows."
This is normal, and will not affect Windows, or any other programs on
your machine. The color scheme will revert back to normal once you
close Seeing and Hearing Speech, or any other Windows program running
in compatibility mode.
After first entering a lesson in Seeing and Hearing Speech, the first
video to be played will not sync correctly with its accompanying
audio. All following videos will play with proper sync. This affects
both Practice and Test mode. In Test mode, you can click the "Repeat"
button to replay the video before choosing an answer. Though this is a
minor annoyance, it will not affect your score. Unfortunately, we
currently do not have a fix for this issue.
